Commissioner Mariluz Garcia
Rooted in community. Ready for what’s next.
Elected to the Washoe County Board of Commissioners in 2022, Mariluz Garcia proudly represents District 3, home to approximately 100,000 constituents who live in Reno, Sparks, and Sun Valley.
Mariluz’s story is one of service, resilience, and hard work. The daughter of immigrants, she was born and raised in Elko, Nevada. She moved to Washoe County to attend the University of Nevada, Reno–earning her bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. from the College of Education and Human Development.
Mariluz doesn’t just serve the community–she’s part of it.
Before holding public office, Mariluz spent 25 years serving District 3 families as an educator and non-profit leader. She has dedicated her career to expanding educational access and resources for first-generation college students.
Proven leadership. Real results.
Now, Mariluz is running for re-election to continue the work that she began–fighting for families, expanding access to essential services, and promoting a healthy, safe, and connected Washoe County for all.
